Deaccessioning and Disposal Procedures
Decisions regarding Deaccessioning will be made by the Acquisitions Sub-Committee and may occur under the following circumstances:
- When objects are of no further relevance or use to the purposes of the collection.
- When an object is damaged beyond repair.
- When the Society has identical objects with identical provenance.
- When the objects in question have no provenance or known local connection.
- When there is a reasonable request for return from the donors or family.
Disposal may be by:
- Return to donor .
- Exchange, gift or sale to a similar institution.
- Public tender, sale or auction.
- Donating or forwarding objects which are not relevant to the Society and its collection.
- Destruction or recycling.
Review
Initially, this Collection Policy will be reviewed in six months by the Management Committee and then reviewed every twelve months and, if need be, altered.
Newsletter
The Society produces a monthly newsletter that is available to members only either in electronic form (email) or hard copy. A sample copy is attached.
